Tenants Union Seeking Membership and Education Organizer

The Membership and Education Organizer works closely with staff, board, members and the community to strengthen tenants’ rights, build a more powerful membership base and directly serve tenants with housing problems. The position combines community organizing, direct service, leadership development, administrative, and grassroots fundraising skills. Excellent health benefits and generous vacation and personal leave are provided. The Position is .75 time (30 hours per week).

Members and supporters have put themselves on the line for justice; organizing against discrimination, fighting for civil rights, risking a roof overhead to win better housing conditions, rallying in the streets, testifying to law makers, and even getting arrested at a sit-in in the Mayor’s office.

Resolution to strengthen and protect the human rights of immigrants to the United States

On March 16, 2006, the TU Board of Directors passed a formal resolution which resolves “to work with our membership, other organizations, governmental entities and the general public to protect the human rights of immigrants to the United States.”

Tenants Union Members Lobby in Olympia for Relocation Assistance

Last Thursday, Tenants Union members and staff joined hundreds of other housing activists in Olympia for 2005’s Housing Advocacy Day. The TU’s tenant lobbyists met with their legislators to ask them to support our Tenant Relocation Assistance Legislation.
