One Last Action to Make "Slumlord Act" Law

Thanks to calls and emails from TU members, our Relocation Bill has passed the State House and State Senate and is very, very close to becoming a new State law.

The last step is the signature of Governor Gregoire and we are asking you to make one last call or email to ask her to sign the bill in its entirety.

Senate Bill 5577 will require relocation assistance to tenants forced to move due to their landlord’s repeated failure to make basic repairs. We have dubbed it the “Slumlord Accountability Act” and many tenants across the State have worked tirelessly to get it passed. All we need now are calls to the Governor to ensure that she signs the bill in its entirety. (Washington Governors have the power to veto lines out of a bill before signing.)

Please contact Governor Gregoire today and ask her to:

“Sign Senate Bill 5577 in its entirety as soon as possible. This bill will require that slumlords pay the relocation costs of tenants forced to move when their building gets shut down because of the landlord’s repeated failure to make basic repairs.”
